PROJECT ADO MATTER

PROJECT TO SUPPORT AND STRENGTHEN THE SKILLS OF YOUNG MOTHERS WHO HAVE DROP OUT OF SCHOOL

Empowerment and support of young mothers in Cameroon

The prevalence of teenage pregnancy in Cameroon is the highest in the Central African region at 24%, particularly among girls aged 13 to 19. The challenges associated with this are serious and include health risks for mother and child, educational dropout and limited opportunities for professional integration. This project aims to provide holistic solutions to these problems by focusing on comprehensive care and capacity building for these young mothers.

Background

By providing holistic care and support to young mothers, this project aims to effectively break the vicious cycle of health risks, dropping out of education and limited professional integration. This will not only improve the quality of life of the affected girls and their families, but will also contribute to a stronger and fairer society in the long term.

Problem Description

  1. Health risks: High rates of complications in teenage pregnancies, such as bleeding and fetal death, endanger the health of mother and child. In addition, the prenatal mortality rate is significantly higher.

  2. Dropout from education: Around 26% of teenage mothers are outside the education system. Family neglect and pressure from society often lead to a permanent dropout from education.

  3. Professional integration: The professional integration opportunities for young mothers are severely limited. Many end up in precarious jobs or prostitution, which further exacerbates their social and economic situation.

Project goals & activities

  1. Medical care: Prenatal diagnosis and continuous health monitoring of mother and child over a period of four years.

  2. Educational support: Integration of girls into dual training programs that combine education and practical vocational training, particularly in the construction and health sectors.

  3. Vocational integration: Ensuring the integration of young mothers into the labor market by placing them in relevant professional fields, which should lead to financial independence.

Influencing factors & partnerships

The realization of this project is made possible by the collaboration with local health centers and educational institutions, as well as the support of national and international partners. Influential personalities, such as patron Yannick Noah, contribute to the visibility and credibility of the project.

Sustainability and outlook

The project aims to extend the successes achieved to other regions in Cameroon and other French-speaking countries in Central Africa. This is intended to have a lasting impact on the living conditions of young mothers and their children.
